Small room, big signal.
Outdoor Retailer moved to Minneapolis in August and drew 1,800 attendees across 275 exhibiting brands. Read that against forty years of history and it looks like decline. Read it against what the organizers actually built and it looks like a decision. The same show invited 150 media and creators, brokered more than 850 creator to exhibitor connections, and reported 21.2 million outdoor consumers reached through the content that came out of it. Reach left the floor. The floor kept the people who can sign something. Lindsay Hubley of Forge described the goal to Event Marketer as building the most concentrated in-person discovery environment they can, which is a different business than filling a hall. Most brands still evaluate a show by its headline attendance, then wonder why a room of twelve thousand produced four conversations worth having. Attendance is the easiest number to collect and the least useful one to plan against.
