The calendar is a design decision.
The Toronto International Film Festival ran eleven days this year. Its new industry market ran seven of them, and its free public street program ran four.
BizBash reported on October 1 that TIFF launched TIFF: The Market at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from September 10 to 16, carrying 650 market screening slots and an IP Exchange connecting rights-holders with producers. The Canadian government backed the market with a reported 16.6 million dollar investment. Festival Street relaunched on King Street West from September 10 to 13, and the festival itself ran to September 20.
Most festivals let trade and audience overlap for the whole run and call the overlap energy. Toronto gave each one a different number of days.
The calendar is a design decision. It is usually the last one anybody makes.
